Two Mountain Lake Services Employees Recognized by The Arc N.Y.
PORT HENRY | Mountain Lake Services has announced that Ashley Wilfore and Janet Sayward have each been recognized with prestigious statewide awards from The Arc New York for their outstanding dedication, leadership, and service to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Ashley Wilfore was recognized by The Arc New York's Marc N. Brandt Exceptional Leadership Award.
Janet Sayward was honored by The Arc New York's Thomas A. Maul Direct Support Professional Excellence Award.
Ashley Wilfore, Director of Clinical Services, was honored with The Arc New York’s Marc N. Brandt Exceptional Leadership Award, which recognizes a mid- to upper-level management staff member or emerging leader who demonstrates exceptional ability and commitment to improving the lives of people with developmental disabilities.
Ashley’s 15-year career with Mountain Lake Services began as a Direct Support Professional. Through hard work, compassion, and clinical expertise, she has advanced to oversee the agency’s Clinical Services Department, leading initiatives that empower individuals to live more independently and with dignity. Her leadership has resulted in transformative outcomes for people with complex needs, including developing less restrictive living opportunities and championing cross-agency collaborations with schools, hospitals, and mental health systems.
“Ashley is a mission-driven leader who inspires others through her integrity, expertise, and heart,” said Rowena Smith, Interim Executive Director. “Her work continues to elevate the quality of life for those we serve and strengthens our mission of helping people live their very best lives.”
Janet Sayward, a longtime Direct Support Professional, received The Arc New York’s Thomas A. Maul Direct Support Professional Excellence Award, which honors four DSPs annually across New York State who exemplify creativity, excellence, and dedication in their work.
Janet has been with Mountain Lake Services since 1985—an extraordinary 40 years of service. She supports men in a residential home, focusing on skill development, independence, and community inclusion. Known for her compassion and creativity, she plans meaningful activities, advocates for each individual’s goals, and fosters deep, lasting relationships. Her consistent presence and selfless approach have made her both a role model for colleagues and a trusted advocate for the people she supports.
“Janet represents the heart of what we do,” said Smith. “Her decades of dedication, advocacy, and genuine care have transformed lives and strengthened our community. She is the definition of excellence in direct support.”
Both awards were presented during The Arc New York’s Annual Meeting and Awards Luncheon held in October. These statewide honors highlight Mountain Lake Services’ long tradition of excellence and commitment to supporting people of all abilities to live their best lives.
