Mountain Lake Services a not-for-profit organization supporting people with disabilities in Essex County, has been awarded $65,560 in grants from the Trustee Management Board of NYSARC Trust Services to support Mountain Lake Services’ guardianship and recreation programs.
NYSARC Trust Services administers supplemental needs trusts (SNT) and pooled trusts that can make dramatic improvements to the lives of people with disabilities by enabling individuals to maintain financial eligibility for Medicaid and other means-tested government benefit programs. For 2023, NYSARC Trust Services is proud to fulfill its commitment to enhancing the lives of people with disabilities by awarding a total of $2,697,980 to The Arc New York Chapters statewide.
This year, Mountain Lake Services received $52,250 to provide guardianship services for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities who would not otherwise have a legal guardian or advocate. Supported by Chapter staff and community volunteers, the Mountain Lake Services’ Guardianship Program currently provides guardianship support and services to eleven people.
Additionally, NYSARC Trust Services granted $13,310 to Mountain Lake Services to enrich the lives of over 300 individuals through new recreational opportunities. These funds have been utilized to acquire musical instruments, including guitars, portable amps, and a drum set, as well as equipment for camping and boating. The grant has opened doors to new experiences, including first-time attendance at concerts and local theater plays, as well as visits to large-scale amusement parks. Agency-wide events, such as Halloween and holiday celebrations, an event with "The Music Guy," and a memorable Friendsgiving event, have become possible due to this grant. Arts and crafts supplies, along with raised garden beds, fishing supplies, sensory items, and outdoor theater equipment further contribute to enhancing the overall recreational experience at the agency's Recreation Center.
