LAKE PLACID | Price Chopper/Market 32 of Lake Placid, New York has been named one of the four statewide recipients of The Arc New York’s 2024 Employer Recognition Awards. This prestigious accolade honors businesses that demonstrate outstanding support and provide job opportunities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

The awards ceremony took place during a special presentation prior to The Arc New York’s virtual board of governors meeting July 10. Price Chopper/Market 32 is recognized for its exceptional commitment to creating an inclusive work environment where individuals with disabilities can thrive.

“Price Chopper/Market 32 is so very proud of its longstanding relationship with The Arc New York / Mountain Lake Services and its commitment to hiring and training differently abled teammates. Our partnership derives its inspiration from the success we achieve by including people of all abilities whose reliability and dedication to customer service strengthen our organization in myriad ways,” said Travis Hart, Store Manager of Lake Placid Price Chopper.

Price Chopper/Market 32 employs four individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in positions such as front-end bagger, shelf-stocker, bakery assistant, and cleaning and cart detail. The company's inclusive philosophy is rooted in the belief that all employees, regardless of ability, bring unique value to the workforce. This dedication is reflected in their long-standing commitment, with some employees having been with the company for nearly two decades.

Price Chopper/Market 32 embodies a fresh and innovative approach to employing people with disabilities by prioritizing inclusivity, flexibility, and individual support. Rather than viewing employees through the lens of their disabilities, Price Chopper/Market 32 recognizes each individual as a valuable contributor seeking meaningful employment opportunities. According to Donna Evans, Senior Manager of Employment Services at Mountain Lake Services, "They proactively address challenges and barriers, fostering an environment where every employee can thrive."

Jack Mudge, Executive Director of Mountain Lake Services, said "By embracing these principles and practices, Price Chopper/Market 32 sets a new standard for inclusive employment, demonstrating that with the right support and approach, individuals with disabilities can excel in the workforce and contribute meaningfully to the success of the company."
