New York State’s Ombudsman for People with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities
The Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Ombudsprogram (IDDO) is a statewide, independent program that supports individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and their families. IDDO helps individuals navigate Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) services, protect their rights, and access critical resources.
This program is funded by OPWDD and operated by the Community Service Society of New York (CSS).
What does the Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Ombudsprogram do?
IDDO provides:
Live-Answer Helpline – Direct assistance from trained counselors and attorneys.
Guidance on OPWDD Services – Helping individuals and families understand available supports.
Referrals to Resources – Connecting to legal, advocacy, and healthcare services.
Regional Outreach – Community-based partnerships across New York.
